WHAT IS GUI?

GUI stands for graphical user interface.  It is a interface where the user can interact with  the softwares only by clicking and working with the icons. you can copy , drag , select anything using the graphics provided by your operating system. It is user friendly interface and very easy to use. OS like microsoft windows and mac os is based on GUI interface.

 WHAT IS CLI?

CLI stands for command line interface. Its is a type of interface where the user has to type command to work on any software.  They have to type command for copying, deleting  or any other task to control the functionality of their system. It is rarely used now- a -days as it required lot of learning to understand and operate.  Users work on terminals and there they type commands. Example  is kali linux.

However OS  like windows is based on GUI but it also provides us command line interface like your dos or command prompt where the terminal opens and all the commands are written. Likewise kali linux  is also built with some of the features of GUI as some softwares work on GUI.  We can open some of the file only by clicking on icons without writing any command.

OS comapnies use either gui or cli based os. GUI is more easier and can operated by user easily. CLI is comparatively difficult and it provides you root access . Root access means complete access to everything in your computer system.
